On the western side is the Missouri River bottoms of mostly flat tillable farmland intermixed with oxbows from historic changes in the Missouri River to the eastern 3/4 of the county being Loess Hills. There is significant investor activity in Monona County and a lower number of farmers than many counties to the north or south.
