Iowa Land Prices Increase 17% in 2022 – Iowa State University Survey Results

Dec 14, 2022

Iowa Farmland Values in 2022 Increased by 17% from 2021

The 2022 ISU Land Value Survey was presented yesterday, Tuesday, December 13th.  We look forward to seeing the results from this land survey report each year. Iowa State University has been conducting this survey since 1950 for all 99 counties in Iowa. It shows a great report on land prices in Iowa and how they changed from the previous year.

According to the survey which is completed by auctioneers, real estate land agents, farm appraisers, farm managers, and more land professionals – we saw an increase of 17% or $1,660/acre increase from November 2021 to November 2022 in Iowa Land prices across the state. This means prices increased to an average of $11,411/acre which is the highest since data has been collected. This is not a surprise to us with the increase in demand for farmland high commodity prices, low supply of land on the market, strong yields, and interest in owning land in today’s economy.

Note – When interpreting the results of this land value survey, we want to point out that it is an opinion survey and not an actual measure of actual sale prices.
