History and Local information

Ida County was formed on January 15, 1851. It was probably named after Ida Smith, the first child of European immigrants to be bo in this region. Ida County lies mostly south of Highway 20.  The northern part of the county is different than the southern part as the land experiences a transition mid county.  The flatter darker farmland of the north gives ways to more Loess based soils in the southern part of Ida County.  Southern Ida County experiences significant participation from Crawford and Harrison County farmers because of the lower population in the area.  Ida County farms are highly competed for at auctions in the area and therefore bring market values when sold at auction.
